U-32’s Kellington continues impressive run on the mound

MONTPELIER, Vt. (BVM) — Just two weeks ago, U-32 senior Owen Kellington helped pitch his team to a Division II state title. His successful run on the mound wouldn’t stop as Kellington became the first player to graduate from a Vermont high school and pitch for the Vermont Lake Monsters in the same month.

The recentlygraduated Kellington shined in his senior season going 7-0 with four saves and a 0.18 ERA in his 12 appearances. The Raiders star pitcher continued that stretch taking down unbeaten Hartford behind his 17 strikeouts in the team’s semifinal matchup. After a home run early in the game, Kellington closed out the Raiders first state title with a three-inning save.

Even with the state win, Kellington kept his foot on the gas pitching for the Lake Monsters just six days after the state title. The Major League Baseball prospect got his first chance on the mound for the Futures Collegiate Baseball League franchise on June 19, showing no fear for the moment. He pitched two innings of norun baseball in his debut and got three batters out on strikeouts.

The 6-foot-2 pitcher will likely hear his name called in the upcoming draft but holds a commitment to the University of Connecticut. Kellington has been projected to be a Day 2 draftee, but will have an open option on whether he will want to get his professional career started early or continue on to his career with the Huskies.
