Boston College’s Charlotte North continues winning year

NEWTON, Mass. (BVM) — After teaming up with a Boston College program that had gone to three straight NCAA women’s lacrosse championship games without a win, senior Charlotte North wanted to be a part of the team that broke the streak.

After spending her first two collegiate years playing with the Duke lacrosse program, North got her first taste of action with the Eagles women’s lacrosse team last season, in the ACC’s shortened 2020 campaign. The outlier year wouldn’t provide an opportunity for North and her teammates to break the three-year championship streak after the NCAA tournament was put on hold.

The muchanticipated year would result in a 4-3 record as the Eagles would only be able to compete in a seven game season. With a full 2021 season scheduled ahead, the 5-foot-7 Eagles’ attacker made sure to take full advantage of her senior campaign.

North racked up a record-setting 102 goals to go along with 12 assists and 174 draw controls in the 2021 season. With North’s offensive production, Boston College would get off to another successful season as the Eagles prepared for difficult matchups against their ACC foes in the NCAA tournament. Behind North’s stellar play, the Eagles would go on to beat Notre Dame and North Carolina, before an NCAA championship win over Syracuse.

The senior’s 31 goals in the NCAA tournament were a single-tournament record as North capped off the event as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. The achievements wouldn’t stop there as North was named the ACC Female Athlete of the Year.

“I am so beyond humbled and honored to receive this award,” North said in a statement.  “It is a dream come true to play in the ACC, the most competitive conference, with a tremendous amount of talented and inspiring athletes. I would like to thank my coaches here at BC who have shaped me into the player and person I am today. I am so lucky to be a small part of the special program they have built here.

“I would also like to thank my teammates, who have taught me more than I could ever imagine. They push me. They support me. They inspire me. And they are the greatest athletes I get to play alongside. Without them, I wouldn’t be anywhere close to here. This is because of them. Thank you to the BC family for allowing me to be a part of this!”

With the pandemic affecting the 2020 season, North will have an extra year of eligibility. Her coach is already looking forward to what’s still to come.

“I am beyond proud of Charlotte’s continued success,” Boston College head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein said. “She has a heart of gold and to see her success unwind is incredible. I feel lucky everyday that we have the opportunity to coach her and I can’t wait to see what she does next year!”
