In the coach’s corner with Tim Godby of Milton HS lacrosse

MILTON, Ga. — At Milton High School, you could say Tim Godby is the king of girls lacrosse. During his 17 year reign running the powerhouse program, he’s stacked up 14 State Championships for the Milton High School Lady Eagles, and watched over 50 of his players commit to play lacrosse at the college level. In 2019, he was inducted into the Georgia Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

“Everyone is trying to beat us,” says Godby. “We are the target on everyone’s schedule, we always have to bring our best.”

Originally from Somerset, Kentucky, Coach Godby grew up playing baseball, basketball, little league football, and soccer. He graduated from Berea College with a degree in Education. A student-athlete, he played both basketball and baseball for the Mountaineers.

In addition to coaching the Lady Eagles, Godby also coaches the lacrosse travel team, Eaglestix, and teaches PE at Northwestern Middle School.

“The girls who play on our team are self-motivating because of the culture of the program. We’ve had a lot of great kids who are great leaders and committed to win. They know they have to work hard and be committed,” says Godby.

His best advice for girls who want to play lacrosse, work hard on and off the field.

“We look for overall athletic ability, stick skills and being able to use your less dominate hand, be a good student, take care of business, and stay out of trouble,” says Godby.

When he’s not coaching in Milton, Godby is home in Canton with his wife Jamie and two children, a lacrosse player and a swimmer.
