Naples’ Moore picks Notre Dame over Alabama, others
NAPLES, Fla. (BVM) — It’s been a long time since the Notre Dame football team has been as good as they were in the Lou Holtz era. Since then, their seasons have been a combination of middling records, vacated wins due to academic misconduct, but now recently, a resurgence. It took a number of years, but Brian Kelly has the Irish headed in the right direction.
When their recruits for the Class of 2022 join the team, that turnaround may reach its full height. Adding cornerback Devin Moore of Naples High School was some valuable insurance for what is considered by 247Sports the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for 2022.
When Moore visited Notre Dame in early June, he took to Twitter afterwards saying, “First time in South Bend and won’t be my last!!” Well, being prioritized as Notre Dame’s No. 1 cornerback recruit spoke volumes to Moore, and his tweet now rings true.
The three-year varsity starter has his senior year yet to come, but has been putting up impressive numbers so far in his prep career. With 10 interceptions since his freshman year, the 6-foot-3 cornerback has ideal size for someone in the secondary. One of his main draws as a recruit is his physicality, taking wide receivers off their track and causing quarterbacks to throw more errant passes.
This past season, Moore registered 26 tackles and four interceptions, even lining up at wide receiver and catching one pass, a 77-yard touchdown. His physical gifts alongside his IQ make him one of the country’s best. With a 4.1 GPA, Moore has proven himself to be one of the most well-rounded football players in the class.
Moore picked Notre Dame over Alabama, Florida, Miami and numerous others. The two-time all-state selection still has work to be done on the high school level, but when he arrives in South Bend a year from now, he’ll be ready to compete instantly.
