FGCU men’s basketball set to host USC, Rhode Island
FORT MYERS, Fla. (BVM) — The 2021-22 NCAA men’s basketball schedule continues to reveal itself in bits and pieces as the season approaches, and some revelations regarding the Florida Gulf Coast schedule have been shared.
The featured game will take place in November when the Eagles play host to the USC Trojans, who are fresh off of an NCAA Elite 8 appearance. Though they will be losing star player Evan Mobley to the NBA Draft, coach Andy Enfield isn’t short on talent. They will return a large chunk of their roster, while also adding the nation’s No. 37 recruiting class and Memphis transfer Boogie Ellis.
Then, just a week later at the Alico Arena, the Rhode Island Rams will be the challenger. The Rams had a down year last season at just 10-15, but are perennially atop the Atlantic 10 conference. With a roster composed of primarily underclassmen, the Rams are expected to be back towards the top this season.
As always, the team will again host the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Invitational during Thanksgiving Weekend, with the participating schools being Southeastern Louisiana, Western Michigan and Purdue Fort Wayne. The teams will compete in a round-robin style tournament.
All in all, Eagles fans can expect a minimum of 16 home games this season. The vast majority of their games will be double-headers with the women’s program. Per usual, the ASUN Tournament will be hosted by the highest seed when the season draws to a close.
