Exeter’s lacrosse coach leaves decorated coaching career
EXETER, N.H. (BVM) — After 23 seasons as Exeter’s head lacrosse coach, Gerry Holly decided to close this chapter of his coaching career, leaving someone new in charge for next season. The long-time lacrosse coach has decided now is the right time to step away from coaching, with his family as his main focus.
The Blue Hawks’ coach has been a dominating force in NHIAA Division I, racking up 319 career wins and four state championships. Holly helped usher the Blue Hawks into their current division after leading the program to two of its four state championships in Division II.
In his farewell tour, Holly was able to lead the Blue Hawks to a 14-2 season, with a clean sweep of seven schools, including a three-game sweep of Pinkerton in the team’s matchups. With an impressive regular season, Exeter would unfortunately come up short in Holly’s final game against Bishop Guertin in the Division I state championship. Even without the opportunity to bring home his fifth state title, Holly has still left a lasting legacy with the Exeter program.
The now–former Blue Hawks coach will use the extra time to spend with his family as his son, Connor, will play lacrosse at Clarkson University next year. His daughter, Julia, currently plays on the girls lacrosse team at Exeter.
Exeter has not officially announced Holly’s replacement for the 2021-22 season, but the team will have a new face in charge for the first time in over two decades.
