Walker Eget is San Jose State’s lone Class of 2021 QB commit
SAN JOSE, Calif. (BVM) – San Jose State football is coming off the heels of arguably its greatest season to date. The Spartans capped off an undefeated regular season with their first Mountain West championship and the first ranking (No. 24) in the final AP poll since 2012.
Leading the charge was second team All-Mountain West quarterback Nick Starkel who will return in the fall after being named to the Davey O’Brien Quarterback Award list in 2020. He started all eight games for the Spartans, throwing for 2,174 yards and 17 touchdowns, and was named the Offensive MVP of the Mountain West championship game where he threw for 453 yards and two scores.
But with 20 games of combined FBS experience at Arkansas and Texas A&M before arriving in San Jose, Starkel’s time with the Spartans is winding down. That’s where Walker Eget is expected to step in.
The three-star quarterback from West Ranch announced his commitment to SJSU in September and chose the Spartans over offers from Western Kentucky, Cal Poly and Bryant. Eget shined as a junior, throwing for 3,250 yards and 40 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. He threw for 370 yards and three scores in the first half of West Ranch’s spring season opener in March.
QB signee @WalkerEget put up some big numbers in the first half of his season opener!

SJSU originally attempted to recruit Eget’s older brother, Weston, which gave the family familiarity with the Spartans’ program. Weston went on to play at New Mexico State where he will be a redshirt sophomore QB in the fall. The brothers will face off for the next two seasons as SJSU and NMSU have agreed to play a home-and-home series beginning this year.
As the only signal-caller brought in for the Spartans’ 2021 recruiting class, it appears that Walker will eventually get his shot to become the man in San Jose.
