Sunny Hills’ three-headed rushing attack headed to collegiate level

FULLERTON, Calif. (BVM) – Sunny Hills football finished a shortened spring season in April with a 5-1 record despite throwing for just three touchdowns. The Lancers were still able to wrap up the season as the No. 13th-ranked team in Orange County because of a potent rushing attack led by three seniors.

Sunny Hills 2,182 rushing yards this spring (363.7 per game) were good for No. 1 in Orange County, No. 1 in CIF-SS and No. 3 in the state of California.

Vince Silva led the Lancers in carries and rushing yards, amassing 845 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. He exploded for 346 yards and three scores in a 31-7 win over Fullerton on April 9.

As impressive as Silva was, defenses were unable to exclusively game plan for him. Fellow senior David Harris was just as lethal with the ball in his hands, rushing for 515 yards and another nine touchdowns. He averaged 10.3 yards per carry and eclipsed the 100-yard mark twice in six games.

Senior Brandon Roberts was the final link for the Lancers’ elite backfield with a team-high 10.8 yards per carry (minimum 10 attempts). He totaled 411 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns of his own and another score through the air.

The trio will be sorely missed at Sunny Hills, but welcomed by their respective collegiate programs. Silva has committed to play football at Southern Oregon, Harris at Doane University and Roberts at William Penn University.
