Chateau Elan Wahoos swim team finish in sixth at Gwinnett County championships
BRASELTON, Ga. — Congratulations to the Chateau Elan Wahoos Swim Team for placing 6th in the County Championship! The team overcame challenges to finish so admirably in a talented field of 43 highly competitive teams. Further, the Wahoos ended the season ranked 2nd out of the eight teams in the North Central Division of the Gwinnett County Swim League. In their four regularly scheduled meets of the season, the team went 3-1.

Over the weekend of July 9-11, the Gwinnett County Championships were held at Georgia Tech. The GCSL takes the top 50 swimmers in each event at the end of the summer. Each swimmer can swim up to three individual events and two relays. There were 40 teams competing and as mentioned, the Wahoos finished sixth!
Individual recognition is deserved for Preston Lin, who set the new Gwinnett County meet record in the 15-18 age bracket of the 50-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 25.68.
In 2020, summer swim team was canceled as a result of uncertain times. Says team Vice President, Christine Kurgan, “Swim families were happy to have their kids back in the pool this year, but there was one really big change…all meets were virtual until the County Championship.” Each team swam at their own pool and bumped their scores against other teams in the computer program to see how they placed.
Christine adds, “It was nice that there was half the amount of people at the meets, and therefore, the meets took half the time that they used to. But the kids do miss out on the competitiveness that comes from having an opposing team on your pool deck.”
The Wahoos are looking forward to that next year, but for now are feeling very proud for a spectacular season, under strange circumstances, with a nearly all new Board of Directors. Long time coaches, Rick and Heidi Creed, provided the stability and guidance needed to lead the team to success.
