Abbotsford Soccer Association returns to the field to continue excellence
ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia — Soccer has never been more popular than it is now. Despite the pandemic, registration in soccer has grown over the last two years as more and more people have sought ways to get outside and get some exercise.
With restrictions lifting, the soccer world is also returning to ‘normal’ with summer camps, fall registration, and lots of opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. The Abbotsford Soccer Association is the only club in Abbotsford with Canada Soccer’s Licensed Quality Soccer Provider rating. Our wide range of programs ensures there is something for everyone.
Our club, Abbotsford Soccer Association, is proud of the many accomplishments of our players and teams. Sophie Schmidt, one of our ‘graduate’ players, has represented Canada on the Women’s National team many times and still plays at the professional level. Mark Village also went from the ASA to a five-year career at University of Fraser Valley. before going on to play professionally in the Whitecaps system, Football Club Cincinnati, and is now with Pacific Football Club of the Canadian Premier League where he played for a year and is now their goalkeeper coach.
One of our lead coaches, Trevor O’Neill, also played through our system, went on to UFV, continues playing in the Fraser Valley Men’s Premier Division, and is now leading our Community Soccer program. One of our past U18 Boys teams won back-to-back National Team Championships, a feat that was never before done.
Our Technical Director, Ian Knight, a former English “football” professional, leads our club with the creation of programs designed to meet the needs of our community. We have also recently welcomed back Colin Miller, a former Canadian National Men’s Team Captain, professional coach, and the ASA’s first Head Coach many years ago. He brings an incredible amount of experience and knowledge to our club. We look forward to his continued contributions in the future.
We live and breathe our motto—The Player. The Community. The Game—in all we do. Check us out at www.abbotsfordsoccer.com!
