Centerville girls golf gears up for greatness as they aim for consecutive OHSAA state appearance

CENTERVILLE, Ohio — The Centerville High School girls’ golf team did an impressive job during a challenging 2020-21 season, placing third at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championship in Columbus last October.

Although three of our top five players graduated this spring, two very good players will return: senior Jenna Hayes and junior Morgan Rodgers. Both girls averaged scores in the 70s last fall. We have several underclassmen who will be competing for spots on the Varsity Gold team (the top team that competes in postseason tournaments).

Our top nine to 10 players participate in spring and summer tournaments, to prepare for the season. We will play many elite tournaments this fall in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo and Kentucky, to make sure we are ready for the postseason.

Our expectation each season is to get to the OHSAA state championship. Twelve teams in the state (three from the Southwest District) qualify. We have qualified for six straight years, so this season’s focus will be on winning the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) and getting back to the state championship. Go, Lady Elks!
