Kingsway HS softball hit out of the ballpark this year

SWEDESBORO, N.J. — Kingsway Dragon’s girl’s softball team had an exciting season this year, and they continued their undefeated streak since 2014 against the GCIT Cheetahs. Coach Ward reported that both teams have a lot of skill and it was a great game. Neither team gave up — two tough teams battling until the end.

The Dragons continued to play hard for the remainder of the season and went on to win the South Jersey Group IV Championship!

The Dragons had two outstanding players on their team this year in Marina Costello and Sarah Cancila. Together, these two seniors compiled some amazing accomplishments in their high school careers.

Dragon’s shortstop, Sarah Cancila was looking for her 100th hit last year, but due to COVID, she would have to wait. Needing only 13 more hits, Cancila achieved her 100th hit in their game against GCIT in May. Cancila loves the team and being around such awesome girls, and she is going to continue her softball career at St. Joe’s University next year.

Marina Costello, a starting pitcher for the Dragons, finished her season with a – record Coach Ward describes Costello as a leader on and off of the field. Ward says, “Marina is an excellent competitor and player, and she has had an outstanding career at Kingsway and will continue playing at TCNJ next year.” Clearly, Costello competes hard each and every game and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Marina is a true competitor and loves playing the game.
