Q2 Stadium to host World Cup Qualifier
AUSTIN, Texas (BVM) — It was announced on July 22 that Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, will play host to a World Cup qualifying game between the U.S. Men’s National Team and Jamaica on Oct. 7.
This will be the first time in the U.S. men’s team history they will play a World Cup Qualifier in the state of Texas.
“What’s been happening in Austin the last couple years is extraordinary,” USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said in a press release. “It’s amazing the way the city has embraced the sport, the world-class facilities they have developed, and most importantly for us the atmosphere the fans create in the stadium. That’s precisely the type of environment we need for our home World Cup Qualifiers, and I know it’s something our players value and appreciate.”
The U.S. and Jamaica soccer teams have been playing against each other for 30-plus years. The USMNT currently holds a 17-3-8 overall record against Jamaica in those meetings.
This meeting will be a special one, too. It falls on the 20th anniversary of the win against the Reggae Boyz, which sent the 2002 United States squad to the FIFA World Cup. During the appearance in the World Cup, the United States reached the quarterfinal for the first time in 72 years.
This makes the 15th time the two teams will meet in a World Cup Qualifying match. It’s sure to be an exciting match between the two clubs.
We know Austin’s @Q2Stadium will be ROCKING on October 7! 🇺🇸🙌
