Trinity’s varsity cheerleading squad is excited for what lies ahead

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Trinity Varsity Cheerleaders are looking forward to the 2021 football season. COVID brought some challenges to last year’s squad but this new squad is excited to move forward. “Last year pep rallies had to be under 15 minutes, so our squad is looking forward to going back to the pep rallies of previous years. The girls and the students still had a blast at the pep rallies last year but it was stressful trying to squeeze everything into 15 minutes,” said Head Coach Heather Snyder.

Over the summer the UCA Cheer Camp. “We had an amazing camp experience. They worked together and genuinely enjoyed camp.  They were very coachable, they took instruction well and implemented the recommendations from the camp instructors.  This was our first time competing in the Large Varsity Category.  We did very well for our first opportunity in this category,” said Snyder.

The squad placed second in the Game Day Dance category and second in the Game Day Cheer category. Four members of the Varsity squad and two members of the Middle School squad were named All Americans. Four members of the Varsity squad were pinned as “Why We Need Cheerleaders.” The program is designed to promote values developed through cheerleading like leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness and motivation and is given out by the UCA staff to cheerleaders they feel exhibit these qualities.

Community service is also important to the squad. “The Lord has called us to be His hands and feet in this world. We have the responsibility to shine and light for Jesus in this world and this is just one way that we can show others his love,” said Snyder. The squad has been involved with Girls on the Run, Mercy House, Christmas Clearing House and Change for Change, a program at Trinity that collects money weekly for various charities and projects.

The Trinity Varsity Cheerleading squad is excited for what lies ahead this season. You can catch them on the sidelines each Friday night cheering their hearts out.
