PLL’s Max Adler features dual career

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.Max Adler’s daily routine consists of a packed day that leads him from early morning weight room sessions, to his full-time job, then to his work on the lacrosse field. All while making it to bed before 10:00 p.m.

Adler, now 27-years-old, lives in West Hartford, Connecticut where he spends his time working as a financial analyst for ESPN. Along with being a financial analyst for an established corporation, Adler holds another full-time job as a professional athlete.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native graduated from Bentley University in 2017 with a degree in corporate finance and accounting where he also garnered a litany of recognition, led by a USILA/Nike All-American selection in lacrosse. Before Bentley, Adler attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. Following his impressive four years at Bentley, Adler was drafted 61st overall by the Denver Outlaws in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse draft, which was the seventh pick in the seventh round of the 10 round draft.

However, during his first season in the MLL, Adler only competed in three games. Not satisfied, Adler knew what had to be done in order to secure the starting position. The following season in 2018, Adler not only secured the starting position, but led the Outlaws to an MLL Championship win.

In 2018, Adler not only won an MLL championship with the Outlaws, but his finance career took off as well. Adler was recruited by Team Israel to compete in the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse World Lacrosse Championship.

During his time in Israel, Adler landed a Skype interview with Nick Mesite, who was a former Bentley lacrosse player and the senior director of finance for ESPN. Following the interview, Adler landed a full-time job as a financial analyst for ESPN.

“This is where my schedule began to get packed,” Adler said. “Balancing two full-time jobs, one as an analyst and one as an athlete requires two completely different skill sets. I have to be able to do both to the best of my ability.”

The only option left for Adler is to train hard so one takes his job on the field, or in the office. After a dominant four seasons in the MLL, Adler now plays for the Chaos Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League. The league has become the pinnacle professional lacrosse league in the United States and requires a full-time training schedule in order to compete at the highest level.

“A lot of the guys I compete against train for lacrosse full-time,” Adler added. “In order to be successful in the league, I not only have to match that, but do it while having the responsibility of a financial analyst.”

In order to fit in everything he needs to do on a daily basis in order to be successful, Adler starts his day at 5:30 am. After breakfast, he makes his way to the gym to get his lifting session in before work. After his workout, Adler heads to the office in Bristol, Connecticut. When he finishes with work, Adler then heads to the lacrosse field for a two hour training session. It isn’t until after his second workout of the day he makes dinner and gets to bed by 10:00 p.m.

“It’s become my routine,” Adler said. “If I have to work this hard in order to be successful on the field, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

Unlike many others, Adler’s most busy time of year comes in the summertime. With his season in full swing, May through August, Adler will fly out to games all over the country on the weekends and make it back to work on Monday.

“After working all week, I’ll catch a flight to wherever we are playing,” Adler said. “Sometimes we’ll play two games in a weekend. Then I get my flight back so I can make it to the office in time for work.”

Hard work is nothing new to the superstar athlete. He is motivated by the thought of achieving success through the grind of his demanding day.

“Hard work equals a competitive advantage,” Adler stated. “It’s what fuels me.”

For his entire life, Adler’s hard work and dedication has exemplified itself through his achievements on the field, in academics, and his work career.

“Although it’s a grueling schedule, being able to hold two full time jobs that I am passionate about is something I’m super thankful for,” Adler mentioned. “It’s like a dream job for me.”

Currently in his fifth season of professional lacrosse, and his fourth year of working as a financial analyst, Adler looks to continue his dedicated and hardworking lifestyle in order to succeed in the things he is most passionate about.
