Where are they now?: Last Chance U, Season 5 standout Rejzohn Wright

OAKLAND, Calif. (BVM) – Season 5 of the Netflix series Last Chance U followed the Laney College Eagles for their 2019 season. The junior college – led by head coach John Beam, the “godfather of football in Oakland” – was in defense of a state championship it won after a 11-2 season the year before.

While Laney stumbled early, finished just 6-4 overall and out of playoff contention, one Eagle made the most of his time in Oakland.

One of the main stars of Season 5 was Rejzohn Wright, a talented cornerback from East Palo Alto, California with no shortage of confidence. He totaled two interceptions, five pass breakups and 23 tackles as a freshman while helping the Eagles to a state championship. Wright returned to Laney as a sophomore for Season 5 of the show and was credited with 18 tackles, an interception and two pass breakups.

After being ranked as a three-star prospect, the nation’s No. 5 junior college cornerback and the 18th-best overall JUCO prospect, Wright earned a scholarship to Oregon State where he would follow in the footsteps of his brother.

Wright’s older brother, Nahshon, also played for Laney during its 2018 state title run before picking up a scholarship offer from Oregon State. Nahshon started 10 games for the Beavers in 2019, posting 34 tackles and three interceptions.

The brothers both suited up for Oregon State in 2020 during a season that was shortened to seven games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nahshon started six games, registering 30 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups before declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round (99th overall).

Meanwhile, Rejzohn appeared in six games during his first season with the Beavers. With his brother now in the NFL, Rejzohn will likely be expected to step into a bigger role in 2021.

Back in June, he was one of nine Beavers named to Phil Steele’s 2021 Preseason All-Pac-12 teams. Just a year removed from being a star in a Netflix series, Rejzohn could become a star in the Pac-12.
