Iona Prep’s Darius Wilson enters Golden Dozen
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Just last month, Iona Prep’s former quarterback Darius Wilson and defensive end Kevin Rohde were awarded the 2021 “Golden Dozen” Scholar Athlete award by the National Football Foundation’s Westchester Chapter. They were two of the 12 elite scholar-athletes honored during the night. During the award banquet, Wilson was also named the recipient of the prestigious Christopher D. Mello scholarship.
The Mello scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to an exceptional athlete every year at the Westchester Chapter ceremony. Since 1974, the chapter has donated an amount totaling $600,000 in scholarships to prospective college athletes. In addition, the Westchester Chapter Hall of Fame now has more than 700 student-athletes inducted over the past 49 years.
Darius Wilson, who led Iona Prep to a 5-0 record last year, adds to his already impressive resume and looks to excel in his college career. As a freshman this season for the College of William and Mary, Wilson will no doubt make his presence known on the team.
