Striving towards greatness: Nate Moore continues to strengthen the legendary football program at Massillon High School

MASSILLON, Ohio (BVM) – As a father of two children, Nate Moore is no stranger to discipline. Although teaching two kids how to play sports is different from a large group of young men, the values Moore uses are still the same. Committed and passionate about the game, this family man exemplifies the importance of sportsmanship and setting goals. Currently holding the title as 2020 Division II state-runner ups, Moore and the Massillon high school football team are hungrier than ever to get back on the field.

As once a high school football player himself, Moore understands the mentorship these players need to succeed. Playing at Mason High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and committing to playing at the collegiate level, the Massillon High School head coach seemed to never give up the sport he loved most. After four years at the University of Dayton, Moore continued to share his knowledge of football as an assistant coach at Dayton Chaminade-Julienne High School and Hamilton High School. Later on, he became head coach at Cincinnati LaSalle High School and won a state championship in 2014.

With a state title already under his belt, the Dayton alum moved his way up to Northeast Ohio to bring his expertise to Massillon. Since his first season in 2015 with a 4-6 record, Moore has made a tremendous coaching improvement and pushed the team into the spotlight year after year. With an overall record of 60-17, Moore has shown how he can turn this team into a recognizable force that can withstand tough obstacles. Before COVID-19 changed high school football in 2020, the father of two led the Tigers to undefeated regular seasons in 2018 and 2019. Ironically, the Tigers lost to Lasalle in the 2019 state finals and Archbishop Hoban, another Ohio powerhouse program, in 2018.

With the 2021 season just ahead, it can be assured Moore is not looking for anything but gold. Although he has yet to win a state championship with Massillon, his past is enough to ensure the team’s time will come. With his continuing positive mindset and strategic coaching methods that keep the football program highly regarded, Moore has grown into a well-respected coach whose determination has not gone unnoticed.

The Massillon High School head coach has packed a heavy schedule this fall, trusting the team he’s built is strong enough to pursue greatness. Competing against tough Ohio teams such as St. Edward, there’s no doubt Moore and the Massillon program will display the discipline practiced during the off-season in the upcoming weeks.
