Mill Creek Hawks get a win in the Corky Kell Football Classic
HOSCHTON, Ga. (BVM) — The Corky Kell Classic took place last weekend at the Mercedes Benz Stadium. The Mill Creek Hawks faced the Parkview Panthers, hammering them 43-10 in an exciting game. It was the first meeting between the two teams this year as the Hawks returned to the Corky Kell after missing out last year due to COVID-19 quarantine protocols.
The Hawks breezed past the Panthers after having a slow start playing offside and taking penalties. Their solid defense kept them in the game, denying the Panthers points on the other end. Tracy Butcher’s 56-yard field goal was the highlight of the game, a kick that sucked the soul out of the panthers. They managed to salvage a few points at the end, but it was all too late.
Mill Creek ended the game with 115 yards on the ground, with Donovan Journey rushing for two touchdowns to secure the win. Star QB Hayden Clark conducted an impressive offense completing passes to 11 different receivers. He threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns with zero turnovers. His incredible performance has him in the race for player of the week. Coach Josh Lovelady had good some words to say after the game. He credited his team for their hard work and determination by saying, “Our Kids played hard. They came out fast and physical…”
Parkview quarterback Colin Houck completed 14 of his 27 passes for 248 yards, most on three long completions of 52, 50, and 42 yards. Most of his passes went to WR Zion Taylor. He had seven catches for 154 yards. It was a good performance by the quarterback. But unfortunately, the Hawks had the better defense that limited their success. Mill Creek forced four turnovers that night.
Mill Creek Hawks will face Norcross on August 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Markham Field.
