Cambridge High ladies softball gets off to shaky start
MILTON, Ga. (BVM) — The Lady Bears softball team started the season with a bang winning their region opener on the road against Riverwood, but things slowly went south as they lost their next two games.
Cambridge played Riverwood at Pope in a game that began at 6:30. They won comfortably against their opponent that could not keep up with their speed and intensity. The score at the end read 8-0. Cambridge moved to 2-4 and 1-0 in the region following this win. Grace Barrett was the best player on the field that evening. She had three hits, four RBIs, and six Ks. Jessica Chan had 3B, and Kate Gordon had two hits, two runs and two SBs. It was an overall good performance by the team.
Cambridge hoped to carry on this performance to their next game when they faced River Ridge at home, but the tables turned on them. The lady bears lost 8-1 at the Bear Cave in a game that started at 5:30. It was a tough loss, but Cambridge still had high spirits. They geared up on Wednesday and traveled to Creekview, determined to grab their second win of the season.
It was a close affair, but Cambridge Varsity lost 2-0 against their region foe, Creekview. Freshman Annie Kimball had an inspiring performance that night, throwing two runners as well as a hit. Bella Gaetano got a couple of foul-ball outs to Rye Brown and Livi Payne. She also had a nice pop-out to Grace Barrett to end B4. Cambridge trailed 1-0 at the end of B4. The Bears struggled to hit that night. The game ended on a controversial note. The runner heading to 2nd got ruled as interfering with SS on the throw. The batter got ruled out.
Cambridge will be hoping to turn things around soon as they travel to Chattahoochee for their fourth game.
