Hudson Cobras shock River Ridge Knights in the first game of the season

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — River Ridge High School was supposed to travel to Gulf High School to kick off the 2021 football season, but a change in plans saw them host Hudson high school instead.

The Knights were the favorites coming into the game as the better team. RB Mason Cline gave Knights the lead early on in the first quarter from 5 yards out. The first quarter ended 7-0. QB Trenton Hawks hit Juju Quinones for a 3-yard TD pass to put River Ridge 14-0 up in the second quarter. Cobras QB Hunter Young hit Ladamien Starks on a 54-yard TD pass with 3:22 left on the clock in the second quarter taking the score to 14-7.

Holding in the end zone by Hudson Football resulted in a rare safety with 1:53 left. The Knights now led 16-7. River Ridge QB Trenton Hawks bounced back from a pick and hit Anthony Adams on an 18-yard TD pass to lead 23-7. Ladamien Starks got the Cobras back into the game with a 76-yard TD on the Kickoff return. 30-21 was the score at the end of the third quarter. Starks had an amazing performance that night with four touches, 234 yards, and four TDs.

Cobras RB Teston Tanner went 53 yards to give them their first lead in the fourth with 7:03 left on the clock. Those points proved crucial as they gave Cobras the win in a 33-30-point close game. It was the first time Hudson Football won against River Ridge High since 2013.
