Former Bellbrook HS soccer player, Cassidy Bereda, looks to return play at Tennessee Tech

BELLBROOK, Ohio — Cassidy Bereda, Bellbrook High Class of 2018, was introduced to soccer at 4 years old at Kettering Rec. Her dad was her coach. She played many sports throughout her life, including basketball and cross country, but soccer seemed to “stick” with Cassidy.

Cassidy played club soccer for FC Bellbrook (now Ohio Fusion) for more than 10 years. She has great things to say about her coaches on that team. “Coach Petric and Coach Spirk had such a significant impact on my love for the game. They encouraged me and helped me grow confident in my abilities”.

Today, Cassidy plays Division I College soccer at Tennessee Technological University where she is majoring in Chemical Engineering. She is proud of how she has adapted to her environment in college. “Balancing my studies, sport, social life, and personal time has been a struggle, but I have succeeded and learned so much through that”.

In her sophomore year, Cassidy was one of the leading scorers for her team. This year, COVID has made things more challenging with mandates. She says that the fear of being quarantined is the worst part. “I had to quarantine two times in a row and then tested positive and was out for another week.”

Her season was cut short this year as she tore her ACL with two games to go. For eight games straight, her team either won or lost the games 1-0 and kept the best teams in the league to 1-0.

Cassidy also tore her ACL her senior year of high school, which was the greatest challenge that she has faced. “I not only had to recover from this injury but also physically and mentally prepare myself for the next level of play: NCAA Division I soccer.” This prepared her for future adversities. “I know how to handle it this time around with more composure and maturity.

For the upcoming season, Cassidy has set her goal to be All-Conference and to be the leading scorer on the team. She is sure to achieve this goal with a great attitude. “I have learned that the only thing you can control is your work ethic and attitude. When you have a great work ethic and a good attitude, you can accomplish so much, Not only does this apply to soccer, but also in the classroom.”
