MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. — While it is a sport that does not get the attention it deserves, it’s more popular than you think, and the participants work hard.
The Bullitt East Dance Team is coached by Jodi Osborne, Old Mill Elementary Teacher, and Amber Cosman, Director of Operations and instructor at Dance Unlimited Studio. Practices are held at the Dance Unlimited Studio, which is also home to the University of Louisville Lady Birds Dance Team, Bellarmine University Dance Team, and Male High School Dance Team.
The Bullitt East Dance may be a small squad, but it is made up of girls who have been participating in dance since a very young age. Once tryouts are held in spring, the team actively begins learning routines, sideline dances, and preparing for the fall and winter competition season.
At UDA Camp held at the University of Louisville in July, the team received the Superior Trophy, a bid to Nationals, 18 individual ribbons, 13 team ribbons, and one dancer placed a spot on the All-American Team.
Amber Cosman says, “Even though we are a small team, the girls are very motivated and work tremendously hard. We are lucky to have a wonderful facility to practice in, especially within walking distance of the school. Just like with any other sport, having the right equipment is important. Dance Unlimited has mirrors and Marley floors which are both very helpful to the dancers. There are also technique classes available which keep us working hard”.
