Young and driven, PJ Lasky’s goals are to earn a soccer scholarship and continue playing through college. He is excited to help the Western Panthers win district championship during his high school career. The biggest challenge PJ finds in soccer is that not many people play, so as a team, there might not be extra team mates to sub in and out. He knows endurance is key as he may not get many, if any, breaks throughout the game. “If your legs and lungs are tired,” PJ’s coach tells the team, “you can’t think about what to do on the field.’”

“Never give up,” is PJ’s motto, “even if you are down 2-0, play like the board shows 0-0!”

PJ’s pregame ritual includes stretching while listening to music. Then he finds a partner to practice some passes. The team warms up together, and then he is ready to compete.

Being part of a team has taught PJ cooperation. Mistakes happen on the field though. Once PJ took too big of a touch and the other team gained possession. He had to run back and help his team regain possession. He says, “if you don’t cooperate on a soccer field, the whole team pays for it in the end.” The best advice he has received from his coach has been, “be better today.” This means you are always better today than you were yesterday.

Outside of school PJ hangs out with his team mates. He works out and rides his bike to continue building his endurance. Since most of his friends are on his team, they often find activities to do together.
