Tim McFarlin opens a path of hope for the Fellowship Christian School football team

ROSWELL, Ga. – A motivated coach, who enjoys their work and cares about his team, can make a difference, and Fellowship Christian new head football coach Tim McFarlin testifies to that.

McFarlin, 62, had retired from his position at Blessed Trinity at the end of December, but he accepted to be the coach at the Fellowship Christian School a few weeks later. McFarlin has a long record of winning in his career, with several state titles at two high schools and winning three trophies at Blessed Trinity.

In January, the coach replaced Al Morrell, the Fellowship school coach who led the team from the 2013-14 season to 2020-21. McFarlin came from Blessed Trinity, with three state championship trophies and a loss in the quarterfinals last season, and he was ready to retire, but his love for the football field prevented that.

The Fellowship Christian School football team returns for a new season after a 10-1 season with Morrell, where they lost for the quarterfinals. Morrell obtained four victorious seasons with the Paladins, where they finished with double digit wins, including his participation in the state championship in 2016. The coach retires from the field with a record of 114-51 that McFarlin could surpass.

McFarlin came to Blessed Trinity in 2011 and immediately changed the program’s culture. The coach made the Titans one of the more recognized private school and ended their poor streak where they had never been close to the playoffs in the program’s first 10 years of existence.

With McFarlin, Blessed won seven regional titles with a record of 112 wins, 10 losses, and a tie. After his retirement, the coach said he could return, and now he will with Fellowship.

Many members of the Blessed Trinity team have left the team to follow coach McFarlin at his next stop. A new technical team can pose an adaptation problem for players, but McFarlin is not worried. Both the players and the technical team have known how to adapt, and all are looking for one thing “victory.”

McFarlin aims to bring the Paladins success in this 2021-22 season, which began on August 28 and will run through the fall.

Fellowship started the season by defeating the Christian Heritage Lions with a score of 31-21. His next contest will be on Friday, Sept. 3, against Trinity Christian Football, a difficult matchup.
