Mill Creek Hawks’ football coach Lovelady continues the legacy leading team to victory
BRASELTON, Ga. – While other football teams fight for their first victory in the new season, the Mill Creek Hawks are from the sky waiting for their next prey. The Braselton team in Georgia has perfect plays, dominating the 2021 -22 season with an impeccable 3-0 record.
This is the third time that Josh Lovelady coaches Mill Creek Hawks. Last season, the team had an overall record of 5-6, while going 2-2 in the conference. Lovelady is not surprised by the results his team has gotten because they have worked hard.
The Hawks went from training with Greg Jarvin, who had been the school’s coach since it opened in 2004, to Lovelady, who had been in charge of offense in the 15 seasons he has been on the team.
This exchange of positions between the head coach and the offensive coordinator caused the Hawks to change their playstyle completely. The Hawks focus on creating a solid defense, but without forgetting that offense is essential to win the game.
Lovelady’s vision was inherited by his colleague Jarvis, who spent 15 years as a coach at Hawks. In a decade and a half as coach, Jarvis brought the Hawks to a 102-68 record, leaving the team as one of the best in the state.
Mill Creek has dominated in the state playoffs for five consecutive seasons, from 2016 to 2021. Between 2015 and 2016, the team was crowned regional champion, where they scored a 10-0 record and reached the state semifinals.
Before he stopped flying with the Hawks, Jarvis said he was prepared to focus on his family, knowing he left the team in good hands. Jarvis was not wrong with Loverlady, who has sown terror among the other teams.
The Hawks’ most recent game in the 2021-22 season was against Dacula. The Falcons defeated Dacula with a score of 35-7.
In the game against the Dacula Falcons, the Hawks thrived on the passing plays. Donovan Journey was the star player in the game, running 15 times for 120 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Defensively, Caleb Downs returned a Falcons’ interception 22 yards for a score in the first quarter, setting the tone for a strong Hawks’ defense the rest of the game.
On Sept. 17, the Hawks will face West Forsyth, who could destabilize their defense because the rival team has Keegan Stover, a player who promises to make history with the Wolverines. The match could reflect how much affect Lovelady has made on the team’s defensive side.
