Seattle University Redhawks women’s soccer hand Washington State Cougars their first loss of the season
SEATTLE — The Washington State Cougars women’s soccer suffered their first loss of the season in a game against the Seattle University Redhawks by 2-1. This was the first victory for Seattle against Washington State since 2014.
The game during the whole playtime was unpredictable because both teams were dominating each other at specific points. Still, Seattle University stayed dominant for more time which is evident from their remarkable victory. Sydney Studer and Elyse Bennett, both powerhouse players of the Cougs, took five shots but were unable to score a goal. Enzi Broussard scored the only goal for the Cougars, the first goal of her career at WSU.
Seattle’s talented Hallie Bergford made the first goal. Seattle scored two goals in total, and both from free-kick opportunities. There seemed to be miscommunication on defensive end for the Cougs. The Cougars led the game in both corner kicks and offsides, showing the difference of offensive and defensive efficiency. The history between the WSU and Seattle is also very significant as they didn’t lose to Seattle since 2014.
For Seattle University Redhawks, it was a great start, and they have so many more to win as they ride a six-game win streak. For the Cougs, this might be an indicator for them to practice and focus more to win the game against the University of Kansas on Sunday at 11 a.m. Pacific time. This loss against Seattle might help the Cougars to buckle up their focus against their other rivals.
