Mel Tucker and Michigan State eyeing a season defining win on Saturday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State Spartans have gotten off to a hot start this season as they win their second straight game to start the 2021 season.  The Spartans returned to their home turf of Spartan Stadium this past weekend in front of a sold-out crowd for the first time in two years.  The Spartans offense got things started early with a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Payton Thorne to wide receiver Jayden Reed on the opening play of scrimmage.

This is the second week in a row that the Spartans have scored a touchdown on the first play of the game, and they never looked back.  Michigan State went on to dominate this game on both sides of the ball as they took down their FCS opponent Youngstown State by a score of 42-14.

As this win was essential for the confidence of this young Michigan State team, their road to success doesn’t get any easier from here.  The Spartans will travel to South Florida this weekend as they take on the #24 ranked team in the country, the Miami Hurricanes.

The Spartans will have their hands full in attempting to contain the dynamic play-making abilities of the Hurricanes quarterback, D’Eriq King.  The Hurricanes opened up their season against the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide and were beaten handily by a score of 44-13.  Miami then avoided a scare against Appalachian State this past weekend, beating the Mountaineers 25-23, thanks to a late field goal with under two minutes remaining in the game.  Kick off for Saturday’s matchup between Michigan State and Miami is set for 12:00 ET and will be broadcasted on ABC.
