Dacula softball coach Kelli Poff continues to prove that age does not impede success

DACULA, Ga. — Kelli Poff is the youngest coach on the Dacula Falcons softball team. With many wins, the Dacula Falcons are preparing to finish with a championship, but their accomplishments are credited to their young coach.

Poff, a Dacula alumni, has shown character and intelligence to guide the team through a third season after replacing her former coach, Tracy Keefer. However, she had to fill a bi hole because Keefer helped the Falcons win 350 games between 1996 and 2018. But this was not a challenge for Poff, who was familiar with the sport because she played it and had experienced as a coach.

Kelli Poff graduated from Dacula High School in ‘90’s. Upon graduation, she majored in physical education and automatically looked for a coaching job. Poff was Woodland-Stockbridge’s coach for seven seasons leading the team to the state playoffs. In his final season with the team in 2015 under Poff’s guidance, the team posted a perfect league milestone of 14-0 and an overall record of 27-5.

Poff is remembered for her fast pitches that decorated her as the best junior player in her days. In her final season, Poff shared the field with Kera Croteau, who entered the Dacula Hall of Fame as a top softball player in 2000.

When Dacula hired her, Poff didn’t believe it because coaching a team that saw her grow into her youth as an athlete was surreal. But it was not a fantasy, so Poff would have to show the best strategies for the Falcons to win these seasons under her command.

Poff started her first season with the same coaching staff that represented her former coach. Molly Poss, a pitching coach, Calli Young, an area coach, and Bobby Burford, an assistant general for the Dacula Falcons.

In the first campaign, the inexperienced coach helped the team reach a league record of 14-1 and overall record of 27-7. These records improved the Falcons from their previous season with Tracy Keefer, where the overall record was 13-9.

Poff became more engaged with the team the following year, guiding them to an overall milestone of 21-5, and a league record of 11-4. That same season, the Dacula Falcons were ranked 23rd in the state rank, which was the highest ranking they had ever reached.

Kelli Poff is undoubtedly here to switch the Dacula softball team, focusing on a quick game that will lead to victory. For this 2021 season, the Falcons have an 9-3 record with six wins and two losses in the conference.
