Mill Creek baseball coach Doug Jones is a perfect example of working hard and having fun

HOSCHTON, Ga. — Doug Jones is Mill Creek High School’s outstanding baseball coach. Throughout his career, he has made his mark on Gwinnett County sports. From a young age, he felt his passion for sports, and since high school, he already knew that he wanted to be a coach.

From an early age, Jones has been in the sporting world and always had the privilege of being around the best coaches and being a part of good baseball programs.

He played at Parkview High with renowned coach Hugh Buck, and after graduation, he played college baseball at Mercer. At Parkview, he played seven seasons and received his first job offer. In 1998 he became the football coach and head baseball coach at Brookwood High School.

In 1999, his outstanding Broncos team was state runner-up in the state’s highest baseball division. He was a coach at Brookwood High School until 2004, when he transferred to Mill Creek High School.

Since 2004, Doug Jones has served as the baseball team’s coach, and his new program was recognized as the best. In 2005, in their inaugural campaign, the Hawks were 16-10.

He had to build his program from scratch and has gotten a proper and nice setup. By 2016, he had managed to win 12 games in a row, it was exhausting work both mentally and physically, but he had a lot of fun during the season.

For Jones, it was a challenge because he has come from recognized and reputable programs where all the players were good and already knew how to play. At Mill Creek High School, he had to work with less experienced players.

Thanks to his hard work and perseverance, in 2018, Jones led Mill Creek High School to the Class 7A state championship series. He has been the only coach to lead the Mill Creek High School program in baseball, and he is proud that his program is among the best each year.

Although his team could never win the state title, Jones is proud that he has stood out and been positively recognized in the sport. Once, Jones commented that baseball coaching means a lot, like being in a ministry. He feels that it is what he has always wanted to do and that he was born for that.

His path through the sports world has not been easy, but he did everything he has dreamed of, and he is happy with his career. He has coached the Northeast All-Stars team from the Georgia Dugout Club and the Georgia team.

Doug Jones has also served as a soccer assistant throughout his career and has earned an important position in the sport and baseball. He has a record of 471-238 and has coached and guided three teams that have reached the state semifinals.

After so many years as a coach, Jones enjoys baseball and watching the kids celebrate each victory.
