Leading her team to success and making Canada proud: Kerri Einarson

CAMP MORTON, MB – Swedish coach Wayne Middaugh, himself a competitive Canadian men’s curler said, “I think the other countries have gotten a lot better, but Canada still has outstanding teams. When you put your best out there, whether it’s men’s or women’s, they’re fantastic teams. Sometimes the breaks go your way, and you get the little bounces and the hit and rolls and sometimes they don’t. There’s a lot of great talent in Canada including Einarson.”

She won her first provincial mixed curling championships in 2010, then in 2013. Manitoba Scotties made history for the first time with Kerri, who scored a rare eight-ender in her first round robin game in the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Einarson’s play in the World Women’s Curling Championship in 2021 marked a record for Canada. Her team finished sixth and she has secured a berth for Canada at 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Homan, a three-time Canadian champion lost back-to-back Hearts finals with Kerri. “It sucks to lose, but it’s awesome to lose to such a good team,” Homan said. “They’re going to be great representatives for Canada and good luck to them.”

Even failure never destroys Kerri’s confidence and hope. She always believes in getting cope up with the situation and made herself motivated. Kerry said, “after losing out of the Women’s Worlds, it’s for sure motivated me to get back out and chase my dreams.” She assembled her team in 2014, including Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard, and Briane Meilleur.

In 2018-19, the team Einarson won five events in their first season together including the prestigious Players’ Championship. Heather Nedohin is the trainer coach of team Einarson for the last two successful Scotties Tournaments.

Einarson said that the recent pandemic situation makes difficulties for Mixed Doubles events as we have only limited time to train together. “Preparation for Mixed Doubles is different, we don’t get the opportunity to practice together as our main focus is on our four-person teams,” she explained.
