No. 3 Delbarton edges Mendham boys varsity soccer

MENDHAM, N.J. —  The Delbarton Green Wave held on for dear life against the Mendham Minutemen Tuesday night. Sophomores Ryan Donovan and Aidan Grant each scored a goal for the Green Wave.

According to NJ.com’s Top 20, Delbarton is ranked No. 3 overall in the state. The Green Wave escaped but barely out of the Minutemen’s grasp, however, they still found a way to win 2-1 on the road. Delbarton advanced to 5-1 on the season after beating Mendham. As a result, of the disappointing loss, Mendham finds themselves 0-3-1 for the season.

Although, the Minutemen held a very stout opponent to only two goals. They should have been more aggressive and emphasized attacking the goalie more often. The Green wave shot a total of seven shots on goal compared to the Minutemen’s three.

Junior Collyer Mclaud scored off a dime from (grade year) Tyler Cilio for Mendham which allowed him to take the lead going into the half. Once the second half began that momentum was never regained as freshman Nate Zimmermann found a way to contribute with an assist for Delbarton. Not to mention, sophomore Parker Smith making five saves on the day along with the two goals by Donovan and Grant.
