No. 3 Green Run football starts fast, blows out No. 12 Salem in Beach District showdown

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Facing their biggest test yet in this young season, third-ranked Green Run made an emphatic statement on the road. Led by standout quarterback Xavier Davis, receiver Keylen Adams and running back Sammy Wiggins, the Stallions raced out to a big halftime lead and coasted to a 40-19 rout of 12th-ranked Salem.

The Stallions snapped a 13-game losing streak against the Sundevils, a streak that spans back to 2010. In the process, Green Run announced themselves as a legitimate threat in the Beach District with this breakthrough win.

The Stallions led 33-0 at halftime, but Catholic HS transfer quarterback Angelo Liotta and receiver Jason Williams tried to lead Salem on a major comeback. The Sundevils scored 19 unanswered points as the Green Run offense stalled with several punts and a fumble through the end zone. Ultimately, the Stallions were able to answer offensively and make enough plays defensively, led by their terrific cornerback duo of Wayne Washington and Christian Parham.

Next, Green Run (3-0) will prepare for a home game against winless First Colonial, while Salem (2-1) will try to rebound at home against Kempsville.
