University of Ottawa women’s rugby suffer their first loss
OTTAWA, Ontario – University of Ottawa women’s rugby lost last Saturday, Sep. 18, against Laval University, in Ottawa.
After a huge 70-0 victory against University of Sherbrooke in the first game of the championship, the University of Ottawa had the momentum and confidence to try to defeat the reigning champions.
Even though their pressure and aggressiveness in the second half was strong, the home team was not able to penetrate in the champions’ defense and lost by 8-7.
In the first half, the away team started off better. They were able to score the first try of the game and went to halftime with an 8-0 lead.
Knowing they would need to be more offensive; the Gee-Gees came out to the second half more aggressive and scored their first try with Claire Gallagher.
By the end of the game, the home team had more attempts, but none of them were successful and Laval took the victory to Quebec.
Both teams are set to face each other once again next Saturday, Sep.25, at Stade TELUS-UL, Quebec City.
