Oakvillians honoured Terry Fox and the 41st anniversary of his Marathon of Hope

OAKVILLE, Ontario — Terry Fox Run, a marathon held annually to raise money for cancer research, was held virtually for the second time. Oakville Terry Fox Foundation participated in the Virtual Run Day on Sept. 19 for the 41st annual Terry Fox Run.

Terry Fox Organization defined the Virtual Run Day as “We will unite in spirit, not in person.” On July 13, 1980, Terry Fox reached Oakville in his Marathon of Hope. He wrote “The roads were full today and the people cheered me all the way. It is simply beyond imagination.” in his journal on the day of his arrival.

Oakvillians continue to honour Terry Fox and Marathon of Hope by holding fundraisers in various parts
of the town. The Oakville Terry Fox Foundation was at Coronation Park on Sept. 19, from 9 pm to 11 pm, selling t-shirts and taking donations. Before the day of the virtual run, the team gathered in Downtown Oakville on Sept. 17 and Upper Oakville Shopping Centre on Sept. 18 for taking donations.

The team published some of the pictures from the run day on their Instagram.
