Massillon Tigers football beasting it up with Cam Beasley

MASSILLON, Ohio — Coming into his senior year for Massillon High School, Camden Beasley wasn’t sure what to expect on the football field. Through his first three years as a Massillon Tiger, Beasley was used in a variety of ways on offense, defense, and special teams. He has an unusual combination of size, speed, and athleticism that makes him a jack of all trades.

This year, however, Beasley seems to have found himself a home at linebacker. Head coach Nate Moore has nothing but good things to say about the veteran Beasley.

“We’ve had a lot of real talented guys (at linebacker), and he’s right there in that group, maybe a chance to be the best that we’ve ever had,” Moore said. “We’ve had some good ones over the course of the years. We think a lot of Cam.”

That’s high praise coming from someone who has coached countless high school players over the years who have gone on to play at the college level.

Beasley has already eclipsed his career totals on defense after just a few games this year. In his sophomore and junior years combined, Beasley had a total of 15.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. This year, after just three games, he has accumulated 19 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick. Not bad for someone playing his first full year at that position.

Cam started out playing more offense than defense. Beasley ran for 264 yards and two touchdowns as a backup running back for the Tigers in his sophomore and junior seasons. However, just because he’s focused more on defense this year doesn’t mean that there isn’t time for offense. He has run for 35 yards and a touchdown and has an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on special teams. Beasley can do it all.

With all of the moving around, people wonder where Cam Beasley will finally end up on the football field. If it were up to him what position he gets to play, Beasley doesn’t care.

“I’m not going to lie, I like wherever they put me. It don’t matter to me,” he said.

Cam Beasley is a young man who loves football and doesn’t care what position he plays, as long as he’s on the field.

Beasley is starting for a Massillon defense that is returning only one full-time starter from a year ago. He’s embracing his new role as a team leader and motivator to the inexperienced Tiger team. He is one of the top defensive and special teams players on the team, and hopes that his success continues in the second half of the season. On and off the field, Beasley personifies what it means to be a Massillon Tiger.
