Reece Beauchamp, wide receiver/quarterback for Vandegrift High School, is proving his talent to college recruiters

AUSTIN, Texas — Sometimes high school athletes wait until their senior year to truly make a name for themselves–showcasing their talent so powerfully and effectively that they become one of the best in their sport.

That is true for Reece Beauchamp, a senior wide receiver/quarterback for Austin’s Vandegrift High School Vipers.  Beauchamp was just named the No.16 player in the state at WR in the high school football guide, “Texas HS Football”. He already has multiple offers from FCS schools, and if he continues to be the powerhouse on the field like he has been so far this season, those offers will escalate.

The Vipers are off to a 4-0 start this season, highly due to the prowess of Beauchamp.  He has had 18 catches for 440 yards and eight touchdowns as a wide receiver; 120 passing yards and two TDs as a quarterback, and 36 rushing yards, combined for a total of 684 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Reece began playing flag football at age 4, moved on to Pop Warner at age 10, and he’s been playing the sport in school since 7th grade.  Football runs in the family. Reece’s father, Brent Beauchamp, was a former quarterback for the University of Texas Longhorns in the early 90’s.   Brent never really knows what his son is thinking on game days.

“I call him my flatliner,” he said. “Never know when he’s up or down, just solid and steady.”

Reece has strong faith, and the bible quote he likes to use as his mantra is: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in Whom I find protection.  He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety (Psalms 18:2).

Beauchamp has loved playing football his entire life.

“I love the team aspect of the game and getting to play with and be around my best friends every day,” Reece said.

Regarding his multifaceted talent on the football field as a wide receiver and a quarterback, Reece said, “I’ve played many different positions in high school, and I really enjoy this, because it gives you many different views of the game. I feel like it’s made me a much better player.”

He also gives a lot of credit to his coaches for having the confidence in him to play multiple positions.

“The coaches at Vandegrift are some of the best around, they make it so much fun, and I just love being around them,” he said.

Vipers head coach, Drew Sanders, has a lot of respect for Beauchamp, understanding that he is a huge reason why the team has a 4-0 start.

“Reece’s leadership is second to none,” Sanders said. “He leads by showing everyone how to work, setting the tone for our entire team. It’s always been said, when your best players are your hardest workers, you have a chance to be good … and obviously Reece is that for us, and it’s playing out on the field.”

Beauchamp, 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds with a 4.8 GPA, said he will continue to strive for excellence on and off the field in 2021-22.  He has immense opportunities for his future if he continues on the path he is heading toward athletically.  College recruiters will certainly be taking notice of him.  As Coach Sanders explained, “Reece is an absolute, fierce competitor who brings out the best in his teammates.  He’s a force to be reckoned with on the field. He can play every offensive position on that side of the ball effectively.  And he’s extremely explosive and can score from anywhere on the field.”

It is that kind of confidence and support that makes Beauchamp a standout from his peers. He sees the big picture, but he is taking things one game at a time.  With his continued success on the football field, there is nothing to hold him back from greatness. Reece Beauchamp is an up-and-coming athletic star in the making.
