Rumson-Fair Haven High School pitcher Amendola will continue his career in Massachusetts

FAIR HAVEN, N.J. — Michael Amendola, pitcher for the Rumson-Fair Haven High School baseball team, will continue his academic and athletic career at Williams College.

Amendola wanted to find a college with a competitive baseball program with a cohesive group of players and coaches. On Sept. 3, he published on his Instagram account that he was thrilled to announce his commitment to the admissions process at Williams College, where he could continue playing and studying.

Williams College is a private institution that was founded in 1793 and is in Williamstown, Mass. They are ranked No. 1 in National Liberal Arts Colleges in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges. They also hosted the first intercollegiate baseball game.

In his senior year of high school, Amendola is working to be at 82-84 miles per hour (MPH) with his pitches. He is a 6-foot-2 slim left-handed pitcher (LHP) with room to fill out.

His fastball is at 82 MPH using a two-seamer with sidearm run; his circle change to 68-70 MPH; his slider to 72-74 MPH, and his curve at 65-68 MPH. Amendola is very comfortable throwing four pitches at various points and working backward as needed.

At the Monmouth County Tournament (MCT), Amendola turned off the Red Bank Catholics (RBC) during the first innings, achieving a big lead that secured the championship for the Bulldogs.

He made it through the first two innings on just 14 pitches. Still, RBC scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Michael only allowed five hits. He walked one, struck out three, and threw 86 total pitches.

The Bulldogs won the championship, scoring seven runs in the first, one in the fourth, and the last in the fifth, winning 9-3 against the Red Bank Catholics, allowing them to be the first public school to win the MCT since Freehold Township in 2012.

Amendola has been pitching for the Rumson Bulldogs since he was a freshman, giving Amendola several opportunities to play against good teams. Teammates said that the game against Red Bank Catholic was Amendola’s best game of the year.

In the MCT quarterfinals against Freehold Township, Amendola pitched the entire game with only one run allowed. He also threw a two-hitter to beat Freehold Township.

Despite the fall, Michael continues to train with PRD, a baseball academy located in Monmouth County, NJ, in preparation for his last high school season this spring.
