Webster University’s women’s soccer team won a wild one last night

ST. LOUIS — Playing host to the Blue Jays of Westminster College, the Webster University Gorloks women’s soccer team took to the pitch trying to right the ship after having dropped their previous two games.

The scoring began in the 23rd minute of the match when Jordan Lande scored her ninth goal of the year, a team high. Jennifer Munger tallied her fourth assist of the season on the goal.

That slim lead lasted up until around the 53rd minute of the match. Jenna Frisella scored her second goal of the season, which tied the match at one a piece. The assist came from Rachel Nolte.

The game remained deadlocked and reached double overtime. Taryn Banfield manned the goal for the match and had a solid night, allowing just that one goal and making two saves in the process.

At the 107th minute, Jordan Lande found herself in a key spot, with a chance to win the match for Webster.

Lande did just that, scoring the game winning goal as midfielder Abbey Poe recorded the assist, her first of the year.

With their 2-1 win, the Gorloks snapped their two game losing skid. They improved their record to 6-3 on the year and 2-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Webster had 27 shots in total during the match, 10 came in each of the first two halves, with seven more coming in overtime. Westminster recorded eight shots during the match.

Webster also controlled the corners in the match with five, and led in the shots on goal category with seven. Westminster led in the saves category with five.

After an off day today, the Gorloks will take to the pitch at 5:00 p.m. as the Eureka College Red Devils come to town for another SLIAC matchup at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
