VANCOUVER, British Columbia – What are your athletic dreams?

I would love to compete in the Olympics. It has always been a dream of mine to represent my country on the global stage.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

I’d have to say I’m currently enduring it. This year I broke my femur and tibia as well as fully tearing my ACL, MCL, and Meniscus. I’ve been managing my injury by going to physiotherapy and the gym to prepare for my surgery. I’ve really just been trying to keep a positive mindset about the whole situation, but I’m looking forward to my recovery.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Motivation is temporary. You have to keep yourself disciplined to truly progress and put yourself in a position to be successful.

Do you have a saying or motto that you like to live by?

Self-belief and hard work will always earn you success. Work hard enough that you don’t have to be introduced when you enter a room.

What do you love about your sport?

The creativity. Every trick a free skier does starts as an idea; no two tricks look the same. The way our sport is judged allows the athlete to have a creative mindset. There are no specific judging criteria, which allows the athletes to express themselves on the hill. Also, I’ve always loved being in the outdoors and being in the mountains helps me relax.

Do you play in university? If not, would you like to?

Unfortunately, my sport is relatively new and schools don’t have freestyle skiing teams yet. Hopefully that will change soon.

Where did you go to school and where do you work?

I graduated from Sentinel in 2020 and in the meantime, I’ve been working at the Boat Shed Ambleside.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

I like to golf and skateboard, they’re similar sports in the creative aspect.

How would you describe your personality?

I’m a very friendly person, but competition plays a huge role in my life. I’m always on the move and full of energy.

What is your favourite snack food?

My favourite snack food has to be poutine, which definitely stemmed from spending time in mountain lodges.

What is your favourite song to get you ready for your sport?

“Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Do you have a pre-game ritual you follow?

Music is so important to me. I put my headphones in and ride the chairlift alone and give myself some space to focus and get in my zone.

What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?

Be consistent. Do what you know. Repetition is very important.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Getting flustered and losing focus has had the biggest effect on my performance. If I prepare properly and trust in my skills and relax, my performance benefits.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Reach out to people higher up in your profession. Having a mentor is very helpful when you’re confused on routes to take to succeed. I’ve always found learning from others to be way more beneficial than struggling alone.
