Chapman’s Jason Bohlinger not your ordinary rock star on the lacrosse field

ORANGE, Calif. — When you typically think of a rock star, you might think of a musician or a celebrity. However, this term is the best way to describe 19-year-old Jason Bohlinger, an amazing lacrosse athlete who is dedicated, driven, and someone you can count on to get the job done.

Jason has played lacrosse for the past eight years. He participated in football and baseball as well, but it was his growing passion for lacrosse that eventually led him to fully focus on the sport. He started playing in a goalie position for Yorba Linda Lightning Lacrosse then moved on to play four years of lacrosse at the varsity level for Yorba Linda High School and during his off seasons played for Brine All-American and the San Diego 3d Lacrosse team.

He graduated from Yorba Linda High School in 2020 with a 4.4 GPA. During his time there, not only was he an exceptional student but was recognized countless times for the following athletic achievements: Three-year Scholar athlete, three-year Century League Goalie of the Year, three-year 1st Team Century League, two-year All-County team, and two years as a Varsity Team Captain. It should be noted that due to Covid Jason, unfortunately, did not have a senior season, but if he had, he most likely would have received additional accolades. With all these various achievements it’s no wonder that Jason is an athletic rock star. But it doesn’t stop here…

Jason has continued his academic and athletic endeavors at Chapman University, where he is majoring in computer science. He received the Provost scholarship for all four years of college and was selected by Coach Dallas Hartley to play for the men’s lacrosse team. Jason is proud to represent a great school and enjoys being a part of a team. It has taught him tremendous communication, team building, and leadership skills. Additionally, the thing that Jason loves best about his sport is that it gives him the chance to bond with amazing people and helps him to escape from the stresses of daily life.

Last year, two minutes into his first home game of the season, Jason scored a goal. This is extremely rare for a goalie to do so. In the 21 years that coach Hartley has been coaching, this was the first time he’s ever seen that happen. Ultimately the Chapman Panthers won the game against BYU 7-6. Jason’s coach was so impressed that he posted a special tweet on Twitter about his new freshman goalie.

Jason frequently reflects on how he can improve his athletic performance. He just wants to be his absolute best and doesn’t worry about other people and what their ideas of success are.  He knows there will be times when he will make mistakes, but he says, “It’s the way you act after, and how you move past those mistakes is what is most important.” It’s obvious that Jason has a great outlook on life and will keep striving to always give it his best shot. Off the field he enjoys going to the gym, hanging out with friends, biking, and playing video games.

Presently Jason is working at the Vans Outlet and is looking forward to starting his sophomore year, and another amazing season of lacrosse. When asked what the best piece of advice he has ever received from a coach or mentor, Jason responded with an inspiring motto, “Trust the process, trust your teammates, and most importantly, trust yourself.”
