Jim McCabe and HomeRun Alley are serious about establishing baseball and softball in Lucas

LUCAS, Texas — During the fall months high school football is given high priority in the minds and hearts of sports fans in Lucas, Texas. During the autumn many residents of Lucas follow Lovejoy High School’s high scoring football team coached by veteran coach Chris Ross. In a community where high school, college and professional football are a high priority among sports fans in Lucas, one might think that there is no interest in other sports during this time of the year.

However, nothing could be further from the truth as many residents of Lucas are dedicated to the games of baseball and softball even in the offseason.

Jim McCabe, a former pitcher and infielder for the baseball team at Concordia University, in northwest Austin, says the games of baseball and softball are alive and well in Lucas, Texas.

McCabe, who is also the General Manager of HomeRun Alley, a state-of-the-art baseball and softball training facility in Lucas, says interest in baseball in his community is stronger than ever before.

HomeRun Alley is dedicated to meeting the needs of baseball and softball players of all ages and provides over 16,000 square feet of indoor practice space that includes 12 indoor lanes with 20-foot net clearance, three-wheel pitching machines with ball feeders, a 125-foot practice defensive drill field, two outdoor cages and a top brand Pro-Shop for baseball fans of every variety.

As a former high school and college baseball player, McCabe is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of baseball and softball to a new generation of fans.

McCabe was a star baseball player at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas and was named first Team All-District in 2015 and 2016 and was the defensive MVP for District 11-6A in 2016.

As a college baseball player for Concordia McCabe also made his mark on the game. During his junior season, McCabe made 17 appearances on the mound as a clutch relief pitcher, posting a 2.24 ERA and held hitters to a .219 batting average while coming out of the bullpen.

McCabe said he is dedicated to teaching baseball to a new generation of fans because he believes, “baseball is still America’s pastime and is a game based on strategy, match-ups, and critical analysis.”

McCabe also said that baseball and softball are great sports since, “they keep the mind sharp and fun for kids and parents alike.”

While Lucas will always be a town and community that loves high school football, people like Jim McCabe aim to instill a love for baseball and softball to a new generation of fans from all walks of life.

HomeRun Alley is located at 573 S Angel Parkway, Lucas, Texas 75002. For more information call their General Manager Jim McCabe at (469) 202-4266 or consult their website at: https://hrabaseball.com
