Lehigh Mountain Hawks football look for first win of the season against Yale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh University Mountain Hawks are off to the kind of start that is nearly unfathomable. After losing to Colgate last weekend by the score of 30-3, Lehigh is 0-4 and have yet to score a touchdown for the entire season. They have been outscored by 140-9 and have shown very little signs of improvement in any facet of the game.

Sophomore Dante Perri made his first career start at quarterback and completed a solid 13-of-19 passes, but for only 46 yards. He threw an interception on the second play of the game and sacked three times. Running back RaShaun Allen rushed for 47 yards on 11 carries with a long of 20 yards.

For the season, Perri has completed 28-of-42 for 125 yards and two interceptions. Lehigh’s leading rusher, Gaige Garcia, is averaging 4.5 per carry but has only 72 yards rushing for the season. The offense has been so bad for Lehigh that they are averaging just 153 yards per game. Johnny Foley and Eric Johnson have combined for 19 catches and 184 yards. One of the biggest bright spots on the team has been the play of defensive line, creating enough pass rush for nine sacks on the season.

Lehigh gave up 449 yards in offense to Colgate and could have their issues against Yale quarterback Griffin O’Connor, who has thrown for 551 yards and four touchdowns in two games. He’s hit Jaylan Sandifer, Melving Rouse, and JJ Howard a combined 21 times for 282 yards. Running back Zane Dudek has gained 126 yards on the ground on 33 carries.

For Lehigh, it’s not about winning at this point, it’s about scoring a touchdown and staying competitive. Let’s see if that happens this weekend against Yale.
