MHS Boy’s Varsity Soccer Q&A with Leo Marsella

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – School is in full swing and with that comes the return of FALL SPORTS COMPETITION! Our entire community celebrated in 2020 when the MHS Boy’s Varsity Soccer Team brought home the NYS SECTION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP and we are keeping a close eye on this talented group for the 2021 season! We caught up with returning varsity member, Junior Leo Marsella, to gain some insight into the team’s preparation and goals for what we all anticipate to be another successful season for Tigers Soccer.

1) After winning the section championship last Fall, what are the team’s exceptions for this year?

A: The team’s expectations for this year are to win the league and section again. Another expectation is to keep a clean, undefeated record like last year. I’m hoping as a new team we create that team-winning chemistry like last year. It’s a long season and we’ve been working hard to lead Mamaroneck to another great year.

2) What are your personal goals for the season?

A: Most of my personal goals are the same as the team’s goals. As a team player, I want to rack up a lot of goals and big wins to achieve team and personal trophies.

3) What has the team been doing in the off-season?

A: We have been working on our fitness a lot as well as our technical work. Last year we were hit with a curveball when we had to wear masks, so this year we are mentally prepared for any changes.

4) Who are you most excited to play this year?

A: We are really excited to play White Plains this year. Last year they gave us a good go in the section finals but we came out on top 4-1. We can’t wait to run back this season.
