Prince George’s Community College ends four-game losing streak, beats Westmoreland Community College 11-1

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia — After four losses and two postponed games, the men’s soccer team of Prince Edwards’s Community College managed to get their first victory in the 2020-2021 season, getting the win with an emphatic 11-1 over the Westmoreland Community College team, Sat.25.

With their backs against the wall and a losing streak that seemed to hunt them for the beginning of the new season, the Prince George’s Community College men’s soccer team managed to show their true identity with an emphatic win on the road.

The 0-4 start of the season was a streak that didn’t characterize the Owls, who, according to their interim head coach Cedric Mansaray, are still working on their chemistry and communication, with the results showing constant improvement.

This is the first victory of the Owls under the head coaching of Cedric Mansaray, who was an assistant with the team in 2018 and 2019 and took the field for the first time in the driver’s seat.

In today’s game, Prince George’s Community College showcased a remarkable ability to overcome the defensive issues they had in the previous games against the Brookdale Community College team (6-3) and the CCBC Catonsville team (5-1).

After some time and several adjustments made by the coaching staff, the athletes of Prince George’s Community College were able to secure the victory due to the match’s importance since this was their first NJCAA Division III Region 20 matchup of the season. The three matchups of the regular season that are part of the NJCAA division will help Mansaray’s team compete for the Regional Championship in late October.

Another factor for today’s win was the preparation of Prince George’s players in the practices because the College soccer players had suffered severe injuries during the games at the beginning of the season.

Prince George’s Community College was ready to take its first victory symbolically, with the most valuable players of the team being Miguel Rosales Romer, scoring a hat-trick, along with Jonathan Diaz and Victor Oluwafolayemi had two goals each.

This victory improves the statistics of the Prince George’s Community College team, and with the record of one win and four losses is second in the standings, only behind the Anne Arundel Community College, a team with a 4-2 record. Their matchup is scheduled for Oct.10.

According to the past experiences of the team, the aspirations for the next season would be to avenge themselves for the 2-0 loss to Oxford College of Emory University in 2019, which ended Prince George’s season in the NJCAA Division III Region 20 tournament semi-finals, and even go further to win the divisional championship.

With Cerdic Mansaray as an experienced coach who has been there for the ups and downs of the team, and with a healthy roster of skilled soccer players who showed today what they were capable of, the Prince George’s Community College men’s team has every reason to aspire for something greater than a defeat in the semi-finals.
