Success for Martinsville girls volleyball team as three players have now reached their career 1000s

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — Martinsville Varsity Volleyball has been unstoppable this 2021 Season. “This team is very special,” Coach Kayla Beck states.” They have some of the most amazing chemistry of any team I have ever coached. We work hard, we are focused on winning the next moment. Our motto is ‘Win the moment’ this season, and we want to be able to compete the same way every single point.”

Three of the varsity players have reached their Career 1000’s. Grace Reynolds with 1000 digs, Mackenzie Martin with 1000 kills and Molly Urban with 1000 digs.

“A dig is when a player stops the ball from hitting the ground off a hit from the opposing team,” Coach Beck explains. “A kill is when the team hits the ball with one hand and the ball either hits the floor or they only touch the ball once.”

“I have been playing volleyball competitively for 7 years.” Grace, #9 , explains.” I started playing with my sisters at my house when I was five. In practice I always try to work hard and give over 100%. Still, I try to have fun and remember it’s just a game, one that I love. Outside of school I play club volleyball at Circle City. What I enjoy most about volleyball is the friendships I have created and how volleyball is such an exciting sport to be a part of and to watch. I am currently committed to Florida Gulf Coast University to play volleyball, so my goal for the future is become even better in preparation to compete for the next level.”

“I’ve been playing volleyball since I was nine years old,” Martin, #10, says, “and I started at Circle City volleyball club. We do a lot of situational drills and very fast paced drills as well. I have private lessons once in a while but most of the time it is just me doing drills and working out by myself to get better. My specialty on the floor is definitely hitting. I hit the ball very hard and I’m very smart about placing the ball as well. I enjoy the atmosphere and friends that volleyball gives me. My goal this season is to make it to state.”

“I have been playing volleyball since I was 10 years old,” Urban, #1, recalls, “ but I have been around volleyball my whole life. Outside of high school I play club at Circle City in Plainfield. I play on a team that travels around the country and plays other top level teams. I put in a lot of work outside of scheduled practices and take pride in what I do. My specialty on the floor would be defense. I love to dig a hitter’s ball and make it look easy. It is such a fun and very important part of the game. I also love to learn new techniques that can take my game to the next level. My goal for my volleyball career is to play at a high level in college. I want to make an impact for my team wherever I decide to go – and be the best.”
