Webster women’s volleyball lose at home against Greenville

ST. LOUIS — After their statement victory in Eureka, Illinois on Tuesday, the Gorloks couldn’t replicate their success on Thursday.

Returning home to play the Panthers of Greenville University, the Gorloks fell 3-1 and fell back below the .500 mark on the season, with a 7-8 record. They’re 3-2 in SLIAC games this year.

The Gorloks rebounded from a bad first set by jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the second set.

After Greenville chipped away, Webster went on another surge that gave them a 17-11 advantage.

The Gorloks held on and took the second set, 25-22.

However, they were unable to carry the momentum into the final two sets, falling behind early in each of them and not being able to slow Greenville down. They dropped the sets 25-13 and 25-15, respectively.

Lauren Borik was the player of the game for Webster, amassing 21 digs and 17 kills. Mary Nelson (20 digs, 10 assists), Emma Leppien (13 assists), and Kyra Gensel (16 digs), also had standout performances.

The Gorloks finished the game with 42 kills, two aces, 85 digs, 37 assists, and nine blocks. The Panthers had 54 kills, three aces, ten blocks, and 51 assists. They also finished with a .211 attack percentage.

The Gorloks return to action on Oct. 5. They’ll head to Fulton, Missouri to match up with the Blue Jays of Westminster College. The match will start at 7 p.m.
