Allen Whitehart and the Milton High School Eagles team make it to the state basketball championship

MILTON, Ga. — Allen Whitehart is making history with the Milton High School Basketball team; the Eagles were crowned as state champions last season. The team had not won the state championship since 2012.

Coach Whitehart was in his fourth season with Milton’s team when they won, setting a milestone of 323 wins and 106 losses throughout his career. Allen has spent nearly 19 years of his life in basketball, coaching three popular Georgia teams.

Whitehart began his career as an assistant coach at Centennial High School, with whom he spent three years. Then Whitehart was hired as head coach for the next four seasons.

After his Centennial debut, the coach moved to Buford High School, where he helped the team become state runner-up for the 2011 season. As the alpha of the Wolves, Whitehart posted an overall record of 115-42 for all five seasons.

Before joining Miltos, Whitehart coached the Etowah High School team, with which he marked his only season with a 20-10 record and made them to the state championship. With this huge winning record, not surprisingly, the coach won recognition as regional coach of the year on several occasions.

Allen is also the president of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association that seeks to develop the sport in the state. This organization seeks to support young athletes who want to make a living from the sport by reaching professional leagues.

Since coming to Milton, Whitehart’s coaching staff has Ryan Koudele and Patrick Long, assistant coaches, and Joe Schuster serving as a chief statistician. The coach had marked a before and after with the Eagles, who Matt Kramer had trained before his arrival.

Milton had very balanced seasons with Kramer at the helm, posting an overall 14-14 in the 2017-18 season. The following year, Whitehart trained the Eagles to the top by helping them set an overall record of 17-11 and a successful league record of 8-2.

In subsequent seasons, Allen allowed the Eagles to reach records of 20-8 (2018), 26-5 (2019), and 28-3 (2020). The coach ended with almost a decade of misfortunes in this last season, where Milton had not reached the state championship.

Whitehart considers himself a disciplined person, which has helped guide Milton and the teams he worked with. With the Eagles, Allen has built up a good defense so the team can outperform its rivals. However, the coach understands that offense is a priority to win the game, so he strives to create the best strategies.

With Whitehart expected to lead the Eagles for years to come, Milton fans and players are hopeful for more state championships in the coming season. One is great, but this team has the potential for so much more, especially with Whitehart roaming the sidelines.
