BVM Sports Friday night five: WIAA football top 5 performers of Week 7

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (BVM) — With the playoffs just around the corner, everyone is trying to gain some momentum in the hopes that it will carry them to Camp Randall Stadium. Here are five of the top performances in Wisconsin high school football from Week 7 regardless of level and in no specific order.

1. Matthew Schmainda, junior quarterback, Brookfield East High School
Brookfield East did most of its damage in the air last Friday night against Menomonee Falls and it did it often. The Spartans’ senior quarterback Matthew Schmainda went off for 311 yards and four touchdowns on 13-of-18 passing in a 42-28 win over Menomonee Falls. Schmadia did throw one interception but made up for that by having a three-touchdown second quarter including a 75-yard touchdown pass to Simon Lupton.

2. Jackson Trudgeon, senior wide receiver, Edgewood High School
It was all Edgewood last Friday night in a 59-0 win over East Troy. Jackson Trudgeon in particular had an impressive night with five receptions for 199 yards and three touchdowns. All of his touchdown receptions were over 40 yards and his best was a 72-yard bomb in the second quarter.

3. Chase Matthias, sophomore fullback, Two Rivers High School
The No. 2 rusher in the state had another impressive game on Friday against Kiel. Chase Matthias rushed 24 times for 263 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-23 win. Matthias also made his presence known on the defensive side of the ball where he had 10 solo tackles, 13 total tackles and forced a fumble.

4. Nigel Cheeks, senior running back, Whitefish Bay High School
In a North Shore Conference rivalry game Whitefish Bay pulled away in the second half against Cedarburg last Friday to win 38-12. Senior running Back Nigel Cheeks played a big role in the Blue Dukes pulling away in the third quarter with two rushing touchdowns. In all, Cheeks rushed 16 times for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 57-yard kick return and his best run was a 71-yard touchdown.

5. Ben Flak, senior defensive end, Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School
In a 51-19 win over Shiocton last Friday night, senior Charger Ben Flak made his presence known on defense. The defensive end had a game-high 10 total tackles, seven of which were solo tackles and one tackle for a loss. Flak also had four sacks and a fumble recovery in a game where Wittenberg-Birnamwood held Shiocton scoreless until the fourth quarter.
