Corner Canyon’s Cody Hagen, Utah’s best prep receiver, commits to BYU

DRAPER, Utah — One of Utah’s best high school football players will be playing his college football in-state.

Cody Hagen, a four-star senior wide receiver at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, announced on Thursday that he has committed to play college football at BYU.

“I want to thank all my coaches, family, trainers, and especially the BYU staff for believing in me before anyone else,” Hagen tweeted. “With that being said… I am 100% Committed!! #GoCougs.”

In July, Hagen narrowed down his final four schools to BYU and three Pac-12 schools: Utah, Stanford and USC. He also had offers from Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona and Utah State, among a long list of others, according to 247Sports, which ranked Hagen as the No. 6 overall 2022 prospect in the state of Utah.

Hagen will take a two-year church mission beginning next year and is expected to join the BYU football team in 2024, 247Sports reported on Thursday.

The Cougars will be willing to wait for the 6-1, 180-pound wide receiver, who boasts elite high school speed.

Hagen won multiple state sprinting titles at the Utah High School Athletic Association 6A State Track and Field Championships last May, running a 10.75-second 100-yard dash and a 21.37-second 200-meter dash, winning both individual events. He also ran on the Corner Canyon 4×100 team that won state and set a Utah state record, according to the City Journals in Draper.

On the football field, he caught 55 passes for 1,184 yards and 18 touchdowns in 13 games as a junior last season, with at least one touchdown in every game.

He’s also on pace to blow past those catch and receiving yard totals in 2021.

Through eight games, he has 52 catches for 1,055 yards, just over 131 yards per game, via MaxPreps. He has 10 touchdowns, including a 97-yard touchdown catch against Bingham in August, where he showed off his speed to elude multiple defensive backs.

He also scored four touchdowns in a 72-21, season-opening win over Farmington on Aug. 13. Hagen has not lost a football game in his varsity career, as Corner Canyon has won 48 straight games under coach Eric Kjar.

Hagen is BYU’s top-ranked recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. The Cougars currently have 16 recruits, including 12 three-star players. Of the 16 commitments, 13 are from the state of Utah, via 247Sports.

Hagen’s commitment also piqued the interest of another highly rated in-state recruit as well. Following Hagen’s commitment, three-star interior offensive lineman Tapuvae Amaama of Skyridge High School in Lehi tweeted, “Something special going on in Provo tho – what’s good?”

Amaama has an offer from BYU.
